At the end of 2023, John Newhouse decided to sell his Late Model equipment, intending to retire from Late Model racing. However, on July 27th, he made a comeback at the “Idaho 200” held at Finlay Stadium Stateline Speedway. His return resulted in a commendable fourth-place finish among 41 entries in a car prepared and owned by Trevor Cristiani Racing. This successful partnership has inspired them to participate in this year’s “208”.
“We’re racing for TCR, Trevor Cristiani Racing, at both the ‘200’ and ‘208′,” Newhouse shared. “Trevor is responsible for prepping the car, and we are confident it will be fast upon arrival. The ‘Idaho 200’ last week was our first race together with that car—definitely not a bad outing! He owns and maintains it while I’m just here to drive. Our aim for the ‘Idaho 208’ is simple: win—100%. We never come to a race without believing we have a chance of victory!”
Champions Pedigree:
This weekend marks Johvan Dillon’s debut in the Northwest Super Late Model Series as well as his start in Super Late Model racing. He is the son of former NASCAR Elite Division Northwest Tour champion John Dillon. Johvan began his journey in kart racing and transitioned into stock cars in 2023, achieving five wins over the past year and a half. After finishing 18th at Stateline Speedway during the “Idaho 200”, where he battled through Last Chance Qualifying, he aims to keep building on his big-race experience—having completed an impressive total of 199 out of 200 laps.
“I feel like my experience from ‘Idaho 200’ taught me quite a bit,” Dillon explained. “First off, accumulating so many laps between races and practice helped immensely. Secondly, being aware of your surroundings is crucial since it feels like there’s always someone trying to wreck right ahead every lap.”
