Jamie Carragher criticized Everton for mocking Anthony Gordon on social media after he failed to convert a penalty against his former team.
The ex-Toffees player had a chance to score for Newcastle from the penalty spot during their 0-0 draw at Goodison Park, but missed.

Throughout the match, Gordon faced boos from Everton supporters, who cheered joyfully when he missed the penalty.

Responding to the video, former Liverpool player Carragher remarked: “A local boy who came through your youth academy, played a crucial role in keeping you up under Lampard, desired an exit due to the club’s disarray both on and off the pitch, and then you sold him for £40 million. The People’s Club!”
Gordon’s visit to Goodison Park marked his third appearance for Newcastle since his initial £40 million transfer from Everton in 2023.
Prior to his exit, talkSPORT reported that he had been absent from training at Finch Farm for three consecutive days.
Consequently, Everton supporters did not hesitate to express their sentiments toward Gordon on Saturday, responding with ongoing boos and jeers.
Despite facing a hostile atmosphere and missing a penalty, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was satisfied with the winger’s performance.
“Naturally, he will feel disappointed, but today he performed significantly better than his visit here last year. I think he managed the situation well,” Howe stated.
“He handled that disappointment effectively; I can relate personally, as I have made mistakes that linger in your mind. It can negatively impact you.”
