Jackson Holliday records two hits in Orioles’ victory
“The goal is to have a competitive at-bat every single time you step up, and he’s been accomplishing that. He’s consistently getting hits,” remarked right-hander Zach Eflin, who permitted two runs over 6 1/3 innings in his second start for Baltimore. “Watching him has been really enjoyable, especially considering he’s only 20 years old. That’s just incredible.”
The O’s (66-46) remain tied with the Yankees (66-46) at the top of the American League East standings. After dropping the first two games in Cleveland, Baltimore has a chance to split the series on Sunday.

Although Holliday is the youngest player within the Orioles’ clubhouse, he has stepped into the role of everyday second baseman as his team strives for back-to-back AL East titles. With Jorge Mateo (left elbow subluxation) and Jordan Westburg (right hand fracture) both sidelined until late in regular season at best, they will rely heavily on Holliday’s performance moving forward.
Rutschman smashes a triple to right field that scores Gunnar Henderson and Anthony Santander, extending Baltimore’s lead to 5-2 in the eighth inning.
“Honestly, I think our objective is to win every game,” noted Holliday. “No matter what external factors are present, I believe there is no direct concentration other than playing our best and winning. That’s been my main focus – going out there and striving for victory.”
The Orioles will have an opportunity on Sunday to even up their four-game series against Cleveland during their finale scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET.

CLEVELAND — Jackson Holliday’s recent success in his second stint in the big leagues may be credited to his refined swing mechanics or perhaps the more relaxed mindset he brings to the game.
Alternatively, it could be attributed to “Golden Tee Golf,” the arcade game that the 20-year-old began playing while at Triple-A Norfolk this past summer. To his excitement, MLB Pipeline’s top overall prospect found a version of the game among other arcade options in the visitors’ clubhouse at Progressive Field.
A few hours prior to Saturday’s matchup between the Orioles and Guardians, Holliday took on a virtual John Daly in “Golden Tee,” impressively setting course records while consistently entering “J-A-X” atop the leaderboards.
“Honestly, since I started playing that in Norfolk, my hitting has really improved,” Holliday said with a smile. “I even got a hole-in-one on a par-five today; that guarantees two hits for me.”

“He’s much calmer and more composed in the batter’s box; he’s really focused on making contact with the baseball,” stated manager Brandon Hyde. “Since his return, he hasn’t seemed as anxious.”
In recent games, whenever Holliday steps up to bat, he consistently demonstrates competitive at-bats. For instance, during Saturday’s third inning, despite ultimately flying out to the right-field warning track, he managed to work the count full after starting behind at 0-2, resulting in a seven-pitch at-bat.
In the fifth inning, Holliday hit a 3-2 fastball from Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo towards left field for a double that bounced off the wall. He later scored what turned out to be the winning run on Gunnar Henderson’s single.
This showcased perfectly how Holliday refined his approach during his time in the Minors by emphasizing using all parts of the field effectively.
“I am starting to recognize pitches deeper and allowing myself to go opposite field, which gives me more time to see the ball,” Holliday explained. “Honestly, I feel significantly more comfortable simply trusting my instincts and approach while trying to enjoy myself. Even when I’m out, I still hit hard and string together quality at-bats — that matters.”

Will Holliday feel any sense of urgency considering today’s context where Yankees won earlier today while they faced off against MLB-leading Guardians ?
“To be honest ,every game should give you everything you have,” repliedHollid,a)”I thinkthe aimissseverygame ,regardlessof external pressures”;

Aside from a direct aim, he stated, “Let’s hit the field and secure a win while performing our duties.” This sentiment encapsulates my primary objective: to go out there with the intention of winning.
On Sunday, the Orioles will have a chance to even up the four-game series in Cleveland, with the concluding match set for 1:40 p.m. ET.
The early game start may allow Holliday to squeeze in another round on “Golden Tee,” particularly since it appears to be his lucky charm whenever he makes holes-in-one.
“I’ll make sure to fit that in tomorrow as well,” Holliday joked.
