Leicester City faced a devastating defeat at the Emirates on Saturday. Two goals in injury time sealed a 4-2 loss for City when a draw seemed possible. While some players delivered outstanding performances, others were notably forgettable. Let’s evaluate the players, distinguishing the exceptional from the inadequate—though, honestly, who aspires to be seen as inadequate? Anyway, let’s get on with it:
Mads Hermansen – 9
He did everything possible as a goalkeeper to keep his team in contention. He wasn’t responsible for any of the four goals conceded, and most of his remarkable 13 saves were top-notch. Whether the team deserved a point or not, he certainly did.
James Justin – 8
His first goal had a stroke of luck to it, yet his second was an absolute gem. He found himself isolated too often on the flank but managed to cope as best as could be expected. While he perhaps should have been marking Trossard during the moment the Gunners scored their winning goal, he still put in a commendable performance.
Wout Faes – 6
He delivered a composed performance, likely standing out among the two centre-backs on that day. Faes found himself too often just a yard or two away from the goal line, as the Foxes defended extremely deep.
Caleb Okoli – 6
Okoli had a commendable outing, managing to hold his ground against one of the league’s top teams. However, he and the rest of the Leicester defense were too sluggish in their reaction to the cross that led to Arsenal’s first goal.
Victor Kristiansen – 7
Similar to his counterpart on the right side, Kristiansen was tasked with defending alone against his winger and any additional players entering his area. He is improving with each match.
Oliver Skipp - 5
Although I have a fondness for Skipp, this particular match was not his best. He failed to provide sufficient support for the back line, particularly for Justin. Arsenal
exploited the spaces between him and the center-backs to great effect.
Harry Winks – 5
The pace of the match proved slightly overwhelming for him. Although he may not be expected to deliver the same level of defensive support as his former Spurs teammate, he is the key player responsible for maintaining possession and alleviating pressure on the defense. His pass completion rate stood at only 79%, which falls short of his usual standards.

Facundo Buonanotte – 7
His free kick was effectively redirected into the net by Justin (with a little help from the Arsenal defense), and he remained quite positive in his play. While his defensive skills aren’t quite as impressive as Fatawu’s, it was nonetheless a solid performance overall.
Wilfred Ndidi – 7
Although I must deduct a point for the own goal—which was unavoidable for him—he contributed with an assist through a looping cross to Justin and secured a game-high total of 8 tackles. While he may not fit the traditional #10 role perfectly, he continues to be one of our most essential players.

Won the ball cleanly yet was still penalized for the foul. Should have recorded 9 tackles.
Stephy Mavididi - 6
Although it would have been great for him to deliver an impressive performance against his former team, Timber kept him largely subdued throughout most of the match. After a challenging start for Kristiansen, he made a good recovery to assist in defense.
Jamie Vardy – 6
He effectively held onto the ball when he received it and could have provided an assist early on when he found Justin, but he didn’t see enough of the ball to significantly influence the game. Notably, he failed to record any shots on target, which aligns with the fact that he didn’t attempt a single shot over the entire 90 minutes.
Substitutes
Jordan Ayew - 5
Entered the match late to help secure the win and had an opportunity to create some problems but lacked the necessary touch. No notable impact.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid – NR
Came on just in time to witness Arsenal’s winning goal. Had too little time to make a difference in the game.
Bilal El Khannouss – NR
Joined the action right before Arsenal secured the winner. Not enough time to influence the match.
Odsonne Edouard – NR
Brought onto the field during the final moments. Arsenal likely welcomed the chance to let the clock run down with this substitution.

I can’t come up with a caption that is as humorous as the image itself, so I’ll just leave it blank.

Despite having written nearly 500 articles for this site and following the Foxes for close to 30 years, I must admit that my grasp of football tactics is not particularly profound. That’s why I appreciate it when I can watch a team and quickly grasp their intentions. The Leicester teams under Martin O’Neill weren’t particularly tactical in sophistication, but the game plan was clear; if the fans understood it, the players surely did as well.
Arsenal’s strategy was focused on attacking from wide positions, isolating the fullbacks, and attempting to cut the ball back between the two defensive lines. This was evident, as they executed this plan repeatedly. However, I ask: What was Leicester’s approach? How were the Foxes planning to mitigate Arsenal’s attacking threats? From where would the goals be generated? Perhaps some of you have a deeper understanding of the nuances than I do and can clarify. I, for one, am perplexed. It appeared as if the strategy was to “defend deeply, hope for some fortunate breaks, and boot the ball away whenever possible.” That hardly qualifies as a plan; it’s merely wishing for an opportunity to arise.
Consequently, I have my concerns. I believe this squad possesses enough talent to remain in the Premier League, but I’m not confident the manager has figured out how to leverage that talent effectively.
Man of the Match: Mads Hermansen
After Leicester equalized, Arsenal intensified their efforts, creating numerous chances. Hermansen was up to the task until an unfortunate deflection from his teammate resulted in a goal. It was a remarkable performance, and I use that term with great sincerity. He nearly secured a point for us single-handedly.
