TNT Sports analyst Owen Hargreaves has predicted that his former club Manchester United will secure at least one major trophy in the 2024-25 season under the management of Erik ten Hag.
Since joining Manchester United from Dutch club Ajax in 2022, manager Erik ten Hag has achieved significant success, winning major trophies in both of his seasons at Old Trafford.
The 54-year-old led United to the League Cup in 2023, marking the club’s first major trophy since their victory in the 2017 Europa League.
Nonetheless, Ten Hag’s side fell short in the FA Cup during the 2022-23 season, losing 2-1 to Manchester City at Wembley.
However, he exacted revenge in the 2024 FA Cup final, where United triumphed over Manchester City with a 2-1 victory at Wembley in May.

Hargreaves discusses Man Utd and Ten Hag
Erik ten Hag’s squad began their Carabao Cup journey on Tuesday night with a resounding 7-0 victory against League One team Barnsley at Old Trafford.
On September 25th, United will launch their Europa League campaign against FC Twente at Old Trafford, a club where Ten Hag previously played.
As of now, the Red Devils have yet to kick off their FA Cup title defense; however, Hargreaves remains optimistic that the team can secure another trophy.
The former United and England midfielder believes that the Europa League may be the avenue through which Ten Hag’s squad claims silverware in the 2024-25 season.
United last won the tournament under former manager Jose Mourinho, when Ajax lost 2-0 in the Europa League final in Stockholm.
“They are in the Europa League this season, and it is a competition they can excel in,” Hargreaves remarked to Football365.
“Their performance in the Champions League last season was not impressive, to put it mildly. I believe they are better off competing in a tournament they can realistically win this season.
“The season is long for a reason, and both players and managers require time. Major adjustments shouldn’t be made after just three or four matches.”

Hargreaves conveys a message to Ten Hag
Having signed a contract extension during the summer, Ten Hag has committed himself to United, yet he has encountered criticism early in the new season.
United secured a 1-0 victory against Fulham in their Premier League opener in August, but then faced a 2-1 defeat to Brighton and a 3-0 loss to Liverpool.
After the international break in September, Ten Hag’s team found their footing again, winning 3-0 against ten-man Southampton at St Mary’s.
Hargreaves has cautioned Ten Hag that he “must determine who his best starting lineup is” and maintain consistency to keep criticism at bay.
<p“Fans have a right to critique the performance of United over the past couple of seasons,” he commented.
“Ultimately, Erik will assert that they have secured a couple of trophies, which is a valid point.
“Though the style of play has not always been aesthetically pleasing, the victory count has supported his position.
“Currently, United has encountered a rocky start to the season. The games against Brighton and Liverpool were underwhelming, but the squad is filled with talent that requires time to improve.
“When you observe the top teams, their lineups are predictable each week; however, that predictability is absent with United. There’s uncertainty regarding the center-back pairing, the players out wide, and the forwards.
“Ten Hag must establish his strongest team and stick with that plan. If he accomplishes this, he can believe he has a legitimate chance.”
