When it comes to the In-Season Tournament, you only need to know these two terms: Group Play and Knockout Rounds.
Group Play: All 30 teams have been randomly split into six groups. Each team will play one game against the opponents in its group from Nov. 3-28. These games are played on “Tournament Nights” and count towards each team’s 82-game schedule. Each team will play a total of four Group Play games.
Knockout Rounds: Eight teams advance to this stage: the six teams with the best standing from their Group Play games and two “wild cards” (the team from each conference with the best record in Group Play games but finished second in its group). This stage is single-elimination: Quarterfinals > Semifinals > Championship.

One thing to note: In the event two or more teams are tied within a group, the tie among the teams will be broken according to the following tiebreakers (in sequential order):
– Head-to-head record in the Group Stage
– Point differential in the Group Stage
– Total points scored in the Group Stage
– Regular season record from the 2022-23 NBA regular season
– Random drawing (in the scenario that two or more teams are still tied following the previous tiebreakers).
When does the Knockout Round start?
The knockout round will begin on Dec. 4 and feature eight teams. The final four teams will travel to Las Vegas, where a champion will be crowned on Dec. 9.

The In-Season Tournament is in full swing as teams compete in the Group Play stage. Here’s a breakdown of how the tournament works and the latest results and standings.
The tournament consists of two stages: Group Play and Knockout Rounds. In Group Play, all 30 teams are divided into six groups. Each team plays one game against the opponents in its group from November 3rd to November 28th. These games count towards each team’s 82-game schedule, with each team playing a total of four Group Play games.
The Knockout Rounds feature the top six teams from Group Play and two “wild cards” – the teams from each conference with the best record in Group Play games but finished second in their group. This stage is single-elimination, with the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Championship determining the ultimate winner.

Group Play games will continue on various nights in November, with every NBA game played on these dates counting towards the In-Season Tournament’s Group Play stage. The remaining Group Play games are scheduled for November 17th, November 21st, November 24th, and November 28th.
