The Philadelphia Flyers, led by General ‍Manager Daniel⁢ Briere, approached the 2024 NHL‍ Draft with ten ⁢potential draft picks. In a daring decision, Briere traded away both of ⁢the Flyers’ first-round selections to move⁤ back, ⁢thereby acquiring valuable draft ‌capital for the 2025 NHL⁢ Draft.⁤ The ⁢front office was involved in several pick-swaps, leading to a thrilling new lineup ‌of prospects.⁣ After ⁣reviewing film, I have compiled insights on each ⁢player; here’s what you need‌ to know:
‌ ⁣

This is part one⁤ of a two-part series that highlights the top 25 Philadelphia Flyers prospects through in-depth‌ analysis. Be‍ sure ‌to ⁢check back for the subsequent ⁤Top 15 feature after the top 25-16. After dedicating hours to ‌researching each Flyers prospect, beginning in late 2023 when I started ‌exploring the‌ pipeline, I’ve put together a comprehensive assessment of the⁢ organization’s premier 25 prospects following the NHL Entry Draft held in Las Vegas,‌ Nevada, as we gear up for the ‍2024-25 season.

⁤ When examining the‍ long-term objectives of ⁣the Philadelphia Flyers’ management, the⁤ outlook ‌for the future appears quite bright. Presently, among all 32 ⁣teams,‍ the Flyers boast the strongest goaltending pipeline‍ and a prospect pool ranked in the top ⁣15. However, it’s important to note ‍that the rebuilding ⁤process is still in motion and has a considerable way to go.

Jon-Randall Avon, Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL)

21 • C • 6’0″ / ⁢174 lbs • Left-handed • Undrafted

Jon-Randall Avon, at 21 years‍ old, ‍is one of the ‍limited⁣ natural centers⁢ in the ‌organization’s pipeline who boasts a⁤ solid build. His remarkable speed allows him‍ to create scoring opportunities on‌ the move and contribute in various capacities. Although he must improve ⁢his all-around game and add some strength to compete‌ for ‍a spot in the NHL, he possesses the potential to become ‌a strong forward and could be an asset on the power play.

Olle Lycksell,⁣ Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL)

24 • W/C • 5’11” / ‌176 lbs • ⁢Left-handed • Drafted: ‍2017⁤ sixth round, 168th overall pick.

At 24 years old, Olle Lycksell‌ is a ⁢smaller, adaptable forward known for his skilled hands and overall creativity on the ice.‌ He possesses ⁤a precise wrist shot and has ⁤the ability to generate offense with ease. Lycksell displays⁤ a natural scoring touch and dependable offensive capabilities.⁤ There is limited time for him to enhance his physical strength, and he has‍ yet ‍to ⁣experience a significant surge in development that‍ would elevate him ⁤to a middle-six role. However,⁣ he shows promise as a reliable⁣ presence in the ‌bottom six.

At 21 years old, ⁤Owen McLaughlin is an ⁣impressive center⁣ who competes effectively in⁢ faceoffs, even though he weighs under 170 ‍pounds. ⁤To offset his size disadvantage,‌ he needs to enhance his skating abilities and refine his overall off-puck gameplay. Although he was picked in the seventh round, he has demonstrated potential⁤ as a center —⁣ particularly in a pool that is noticeably ‍shallow in depth.

Top 25-16 Prospect Rankings:

25. Santeri Sulku, IPK (Mestis)

Ranking: Unranked

In the 25th position on my‌ list is Santeri Sulku, a 20-year-old forward hailing from Helsinki, Finland. He ⁣possesses dual ⁢citizenship from both Finland and Sweden. Sulku is ‍a talented power forward with an imposing physique, measuring 6-foot-4 and weighing 201 pounds.

Renowned for his⁤ fluid and assertive ‍skating, he demonstrates a confident‌ shot and an aptitude for ⁣targeting⁣ corners effectively.‍ Sulku has exhibited considerable potential in goal scoring and utilizes his physicality⁤ strategically⁢ on the ice. During his rookie year ‍in Mestis, Finland’s second-highest men’s hockey league, he netted 17 goals and provided 9 assists, totaling ⁤26 points ⁢across 35 games. In the playoffs, he maintained‌ impressive productivity with 9 points and a plus-minus ⁤of seven‌ in ⁣11 games.

Competing against older players sheds light on his performance, particularly where limitations can be observed. Sulku typically ⁤finds success in scoring during rushes and enjoys making cross-crease passes to set up scoring opportunities or score himself ‌on the short side. When not ⁢sprinting up the ice, he stations himself in front of the net, capitalizing on his size and positioning to generate⁤ space—an area where further improvement is⁣ beneficial.

A notable ⁣weakness in his gameplay is his tendency to be easily knocked off the puck, which prevents him from employing his greatest assets effectively and negatively⁣ impacts his scoring output. His ⁤strengths stem more from his mindset than tangible skills. Offensively, Sulku exhibits a strong desire‌ to shoot from ⁤various angles, often creating promising offensive plays.

The primary concern regarding Sulku as a prospect is‌ his inconsistency in intensity when he is ⁣without the‌ puck. He often waits for passes and ⁤distances himself from plays, which is particularly‌ harmful since his size⁣ could offer significant advantages in more physical scenarios on the ice.

To ⁤maximize his impact, he ⁤needs to better leverage his‍ size in ‍physical⁤ situations and to create separation from defenders. His ⁢shooting,⁣ skating, and puck-handling ⁣skills are all above average but‌ not extraordinary. However, he doesn’t ‌utilize them ‍consistently enough to⁣ take‍ advantage of his size and vision in critical moments. Positively, he is‌ recognized for his versatility, having⁢ played⁣ in various forward⁤ positions throughout his junior career. As he moves up ⁤to higher levels of competition, it will be ⁢vital for Sulku to incorporate additional‌ muscle into his play.

24. Austin Moline, Brooks Bandits (BCHL)

18 • D ⁣• 6’5″ / 201 ⁢Ibs • Right⁢ handed • Drafted: 2024 seventh round, 205th overall⁣ pick.

THN 2023-24 Ranking:‍ N/A

Austin Moline, an 18-year-old from⁣ Las ⁢Vegas, Nevada, is ranked No. 24 as the⁣ first 2024 NHL Draft pick in these standings. With a towering height of 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 201 pounds, he certainly stands out. His physical presence⁢ is often‌ the ⁤first ‍attribute ⁢noted ⁣by observers, particularly his ability to utilize his long reach on defense and generate space during forechecking.

This large, fast ⁢defenseman possesses a strong offensive mindset,⁢ demonstrating considerable determination despite his imposing stature. Whenever the opportunity arises, Moline‌ is quick to join the play, sprinting down the weak⁤ side or‌ serving as a⁤ trailing option. When he gets close enough to the net, he can finish ⁤plays effectively, though he‌ needs to enhance his shot power from longer distances.

For the 2024-25 season, Moline will compete in the British Columbia ⁣Hockey League (BCHL)⁣ with ⁣the Brooks Bandits, before‍ transitioning to ⁤the NCAA to play ⁢for Northern ⁣Michigan University‍ starting in the fall of the⁢ 2025-26 season. While ⁢there may not be ⁣much to rave about immediately, his size is a significant advantage; he effectively uses his body to apply⁣ pressure on opponents and‍ induce errors.

Moline does not shy away ‍from contributing to ‌the offense, openly expressing⁢ his enthusiasm for making plays and being an active ⁣part of‍ the attack.

Passing is undoubtedly the most⁤ impressive facet of his game. Coupled with his agile skating, solid edges, scoring ability ‍in tight situations, and physical style, he possesses the necessary tools to become a successful ‍NHL defenseman. These qualities contributed to his ⁣impressive stats of 27 assists and 35 points during‍ his draft year at Shattuck St. Mary’s⁤ 18U Prep.

THN⁤ 2023-24 Ranking: 22

Over the past three years ⁤of his junior career, Alexis Gendron, ⁤now ‍20, has confronted numerous challenges. His journey has included time spent⁤ with three‌ different teams in the Quebec⁤ Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and limited ‍opportunities in the American Hockey League (AHL) over the last two years. However, his perseverance has ultimately paid off.

Gendron brings ‌both versatility ‍and talent⁤ to the ice. He embraces competition and does not shy away from the⁢ more ⁢challenging aspects of play. ⁢His production and level of commitment are impressive, especially considering ‌he was a late-round selection.

<img loading="lazy" ‍decoding="async" width="640" height="213" data-attachment-id="101181" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/?attachment_id=101181" ⁤data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot-2024-08-01-at-2.12.07 PM.png?fit=2979%2C990&ssl=1" data-orig-size="2979,990" ⁤data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Screenshot 2024-08-01 at 2.12.07 PM" data-image-description="" ⁢data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/Data courtesy of DobberProspects.com

Since his selection⁢ in the 2022 draft, Gendron began his draft year playing ⁣for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the QMJHL. He then spent another season and ‍a half with the team before transferring to ⁤the Gatineau Olympiques towards the end of ‍the 2022-23 season. Gendron consistently delivered impressive stats, earning a promotion to the AHL owing to his late⁣ birthday‌ at⁢ 19 years old, (as prospects‍ typically⁤ are unable to compete in the‍ AHL until they turn 20).

Nonetheless,⁢ after an⁤ inconsistent but brief rookie ‍season in Allentown, Pennsylvania—with limited ice time and ‍placement primarily on⁤ the fourth line—he returned to the QMJHL to finish the season with the ⁤Drummondville Voltigeurs, ⁣where⁣ he ‍excelled and contributed to winning the QMJHL Championship.

Gendron ‌is‍ a goal-scoring threat capable ⁤of making ⁣plays from anywhere on the ice.⁣ With his quick feet, he embodies the essence of a speedster, demonstrating an ability to identify ⁢opportunities ⁢and ‌find openings from‍ various angles. Over his four-year junior⁢ career, his statistics reflect his scoring prowess vividly. He accumulated‍ 104 ‍goals and 55 ⁣assists, totaling 159 points ⁣across 176 games, in addition to securing 47 points throughout 43 playoff games.

One notable area for improvement remains his playmaking skill and overall 200-foot game, which requires further development. Nevertheless, he can serve as a dependable asset on ⁤special teams, adept at navigating through heavy ‍traffic to deliver ‌passes, while⁣ also displaying a commendable off-puck presence as he anticipates plays effectively. Despite ⁤standing at 5⁤ feet 10 inches ⁣tall and weighing⁤ 181 pounds, ‍he plays with tenacity and effectively makes his mark as a smaller forward. His exceptional hockey ⁣IQ paired with his creativity allows him to generate offensive opportunities.

THN 2023-24 Ranking: Unranked

One of the newcomers to my list is Cole Knuble, 20, who makes his debut at No. 24 after narrowly missing last year’s selection. He is following in the⁤ footsteps of his father, Mike Knuble, a former prominent Flyers player. At 5⁣ feet 11 inches and 185 pounds, ‍Cole is a physically dominating presence in front of the net. He competes at a level reminiscent of his ⁣father’s days in the orange and black, compensating for any size disadvantages. A quick‍ thinker, he⁤ is capable of generating scoring⁤ opportunities from ‍all ⁤areas of the offensive zone, showcasing significant hockey IQ in his gameplay.

Upon arriving at ‍Notre Dame, his offensive‌ output, which had stood out during his‍ time in the USHL, diminished⁤ as he appeared to struggle initially. However, he gradually adapted and shifted his focus towards enhancing his defensive skills and embracing ⁤a ‍more balanced two-way‌ style of play.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="222" ‌data-attachment-id="101183" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/?attachment_id=101183" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp“`html
Data courtesy of DobberProspects.com

During his freshman year at ‌the University ⁢of⁢ Notre Dame, he experienced his lowest statistical output but managed to improve in ‌the latter part of the ‌season, looking ⁣to leverage the confidence he regained.

Possessing⁣ soft hands for⁢ maneuvering in close quarters or passing around defenders, ⁤he⁣ complements this skill set⁣ with quick bursts of speed to generate offensive opportunities ⁢or to ‍backcheck effectively. While his speed is an ‌asset, Knuble must ⁣enhance his transition game, ‌particularly ‌when exiting the defensive zone or moving the puck through the neutral area.

“`

Although Knuble recorded only 9‌ goals and 20 points over 36‌ games, punctuated by significant scoring⁢ droughts, he ⁤consistently executed the fundamental aspects of⁤ the game‌ effectively and managed to make an impact. Enhancing ‍his skating skills could‍ significantly aid Knuble’s prospects of⁢ transitioning to the professional level, as this area currently poses a challenge for him.

He is anticipated to serve as a bottom-six forward at the NHL level, a role that could ⁣be vital for the‌ Flyers’ depth. One strong aspect of his ‍game is his‍ determination to ‌move towards the net. In front-of-the-net skirmishes, he possesses the strength to maintain his position and has sufficiently skilled hands to redirect⁤ pucks while screening the goalie. While he may not be ‍the largest⁣ player on the ice, he effectively stands his ground against bigger defenders and consistently battles for ‍space.

21. Devin Kaplan, Boston University (NCAA)

<img loading="lazy" ⁢decoding="async" width="640" height="360" data-attachment-id="100382" data-permalinkDevin Kaplan, Boston University (Photo: Boston Terriers/Rich Gagnon)

20 ‌• ⁢RW • 6’2″ / 198 lbs • Right-handed • Drafted: 2022 third round, 69th overall pick.

THN 2023-24 Ranking: 15

At just 19 years old, Devin Kaplan⁤ possesses an exceptional blend of size, speed, and skill, excelling in all ⁢three aspects. His versatility allows him to be deployed in various⁣ lineup positions, and he‌ has the potential to become a significant two-way⁤ player in the NHL.

Kaplan’s contributions extend‍ beyond what’s ⁣reflected on the score sheet or in his EliteProspects profile. While he is indeed capable of scoring and accumulating⁤ points, his primary asset lies in his transition play. When⁢ he ⁢controls the‍ puck, he displays excellent puck-handling abilities in tight spaces and⁣ maintains his⁣ composure while advancing the puck. He demonstrates agility with sharp edges ‌that enable him to ‍maneuver through the neutral zone, showcasing remarkable awareness and impressive speed.⁢ Additionally, he exhibits clever defensive skills, effectively pinning opponents, obstructing shooting lanes, or steering them towards the perimeter.

Data courtesy of DobberProspects.com

Kaplan ‍demonstrates a solid ability to position himself in the slot, actively‍ seeking passes or generating space, particularly during power plays where he serves as the bumper. Once he’s located⁤ between the hashmarks,⁣ he seldom‌ holds onto the puck for⁤ long, opting instead for a quick tip pass or ‌a shot on goal. This position allows him to utilize‍ his‌ powerful ⁢one-timer and strong shot effectively.

In terms of gaining‌ momentum, Kaplan employs⁤ strong⁢ crossovers to ⁣generate speed,⁤ allowing ⁢him to create more time and space. His progress in this area has‌ been noticeable over the past year, ⁢although there is still room for further improvement. Patience will be essential for Kaplan, as players of his size⁣ often require additional time ⁣to reach their ‌full potential. Despite his ⁣stature, he maintains excellent ⁤discipline, accumulating only⁣ 34 ⁣penalty minutes in⁣ the 2023-24 season and 83 PIM throughout‍ his collegiate career.

As he enters his junior year,⁤ having been named an ⁢alternate⁣ captain for the 2024-25 season, Kaplan has established himself as both a‍ leader and a ⁤reliable forward at Boston University. With two seasons under his belt, totaling 77⁤ games and ⁣consistent point ‍totals of 22 each year, he⁤ feels poised to elevate his game further. Across those 77 games, he has netted 15 goals and recorded ⁢31 assists, resulting in ⁢a total of 46 points and a plus-minus rating of 24.

18 • RW • 5’11” / 168 lbs • Right-handed ⁢• Drafted: 2024 sixth round, 173rd overall pick.

THN 2023-24⁢ Ranking:⁣ N/A

At just 18 years old, Ilya Pautov ‌was considered an unexpected selection‌ by many, yet this choice aligns‍ perfectly with the preferences of the⁣ Flyers. They have a history of valuing ⁢smaller⁤ players,⁢ as exemplified by‌ Denver Barkey, who is only 5-foot-9. Standing two inches taller, Pautov is a skilled ‍Russian forward ⁤who⁢ must work on his footwork to realize his full potential.

Possessing dexterous hands and a vivid imagination on the ice, he needs to ⁢refine his skating technique,⁢ especially important given ⁢his smaller stature. ⁣Rather than shooting from ⁤distance, he frequently opts for an outlet pass or seeks open lanes. Nevertheless, when Pautov has the ⁢puck in the offensive zone, he is capable of ⁤surprising moves that can ⁢leave defenders guessing.

During the 2023-24 season, ⁤Pautov recorded 45 points in 46‍ games for Krasnaya Armiya Moskva in the Molodyozhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga (MHL), leading his team in assists with 30, securing fifth in‌ scoring with 15 goals, and‌ placing second overall‍ in points. His exceptional puck skills and finesse set him apart; he adeptly maneuvers around defenders and uses his ‌body⁤ to navigate through opponents, showing significant improvement in his physicality without⁣ becoming overly tough.

His movements are quite fluid,

Pautov rarely overextends himself and excels at getting ⁢close to⁤ goalies and defenders in one-on-one situations. His constant⁤ movement makes him ⁢a natural scoring threat, as ⁣he‍ effectively toe-drags and maneuvers through opponents or cuts between defenders.

For Pautov to succeed as an NHL player, he has considerable work ahead and⁤ will need to significantly build his ⁢physique. His ‍exceptional skills,⁢ elite hand-eye coordination, and outstanding vision enable him to read the game at ⁤an ⁤advanced level.

In addition, he can⁢ accelerate at impressive speeds; however, he still needs to enhance his edge work and strength overall. To compensate for‍ his smaller stature in North America, ‌he must ⁤find ‍an extra gear. Fortunately, he⁢ does not‍ have any pressing mechanical issues, and his movements are so fluid and purposeful⁤ that several positive aspects ‍are already evident.

19. ⁤Hunter McDonald, Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL)

22 • D • 6’4″ ‌/ 205 lbs • ‍Left-handed • ⁢Drafted: 2022 sixth round, 165th overall pick.

THN 2023-24 Ranking: 16

There is much to admire about 22-year-old Hunter⁢ McDonald, who recently graduated from Northeastern University and made his AHL debut toward the ‌end⁣ of the⁤ 2023-24 season. The Flyers’ management, particularly President of Hockey⁤ Operations Keith Jones, have shown strong support for McDonald and his development. While he may not‍ have⁣ the ‍same‍ excitement factor as some of his predecessors, he possesses a well-rounded game that can‍ effectively complement ‌high-end talent.

As a sizable⁢ shutdown⁣ defenseman⁢ with dependable skating abilities, he ‍leverages his frame to be an assertive⁢ blueliner who also has ⁤some offensive potential. He demonstrates confidence‌ along the boards and in⁢ front of‌ the net, ⁣effectively using ‍his edges to seek out outlet ‌passes or employing his surroundings to create ⁣barriers for‌ opponents.

“`html

McDonald has already encountered ⁣a significant number of injuries. He ⁤sustained an undisclosed injury‍ just one game into the 2023-24⁢ college ⁤season, which kept him sidelined until the Christmas break,⁤ setting him back considerably. However, he informed‍ FlyersNittyGritty that he was healthy ⁤earlier but chose⁤ to take⁣ the additional time ‌as per his doctor’s advice ‍to ensure a ‍complete recovery before returning. Unfortunately, during his AHL debut, he was sidelined again after just one shift.

Ongoing injuries may pose a future ‌concern⁣ if‌ this trend continues,‌ which is likely given his ‌playing style and size. He‌ embodies the‌ characteristics of a traditional defenseman, a rarity in today’s NHL. If his body can withstand the rigors of the‍ game, he⁢ may enjoy a lengthy career.

Former⁣ Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher selected McDonald, envisioning him as a dependable, large defenseman. He was never intended to be a primary point contributor or to⁣ make a significant impact in the offensive zone. However, he has demonstrated some offensive capabilities‍ at times and consistently proves to be a team player.

“`

He has become a more disciplined player on ⁢the ice, avoiding penalties as⁤ he gains experience, thus not being a liability for his ⁤team. With the potential to be a significant contributor in the coming ⁢years, he could attract attention ⁢at training camp this fall, both literally and figuratively.

19 • RW • 6’2” / 201 Ibs⁣ • Right handed • Drafted: 2024 fifth round, 148th⁤ overall pick.

THN 2023-24 Ranking: N/A

Noah Powell, ‌age 19, was ‌a re-entry for this year’s draft, making him an ⁢overage from⁢ the USHL after a significantly better season with the ⁢Dubuque Fighting Saints. Besides the typical⁤ challenges faced by a late-round pick, he is⁢ also functionally deaf. Nevertheless, his hearing loss is hardly noticeable, and he does not allow it to⁤ impact his identity or style of⁢ play.

This⁣ was evident when he led the Fighting⁢ Saints and the entire league in scoring, achieving 43 goals and‌ 74 points over the span of 61 games. His performance at camp ‍alongside⁤ other new draftees further showcased his talent. After concluding his ⁣two-year USHL career with nearly 100 points, he will advance⁢ to Ohio⁢ State University to commence ⁢his NCAA ⁤journey in the⁣ fall of 2024-25.

Data courtesy of DobberProspects.com

Powell ‌stands out as a⁢ promising prospect with⁤ plenty‍ to bring to ⁣the table, yet the challenge lies in consolidating ⁣his skills to become a reliable winger in more⁤ advanced levels of competition. He is willing to play physically, enter gritty areas, and even engage in ⁣fights — attributes⁤ that both⁣ Flyers fans and management can find⁣ appealing.⁢ With his impressive skill set, robust physique, adept hands,‍ and an undeniable presence on the ice, he has the potential to be a complete player.

His aggressive forechecking and tenacity in puck battles allow him to keep plays alive. Once he ⁣gains momentum, he ⁢becomes difficult to contain, ‌although he needs to refine his skating mechanics. Powell also possesses a talent for scoring dazzling, ⁢highlight-reel‌ goals, ⁣showcasing his creativity with⁤ the puck.

His 6-foot-2, 201-pound frame is complemented by ‍a tough style ⁣of play, particularly in corner battles and around the net. Powell not only wields a versatile shot but also navigates around the‍ net effectively, scoring goals in⁤ various⁣ ways.

17. Ronnie ⁣Attard, ⁢Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL)

“`html

25 • D • 6’3″ / 207 lbs • Right-handed‌ • ⁢Drafted: 2019 ‍third round, 72nd overall pick.

THN 2023-24 Ranking: 8

At 25⁤ years old,‍ Ronnie Attard is entering his fifth season within the Flyers organization. Drafted in the third round of the⁢ 2019 NHL Draft, he has managed to appear⁤ in only ⁣29 games at the NHL level, with a⁣ notable 15 of⁢ those ‍games taking place during his shortened rookie campaign. After graduating from Western Michigan University, he made his NHL debut in‌ the 2021-22 season, where ⁤he immediately played 15 games, ‍scoring two goals and adding two assists. However, ‍he has not matched that level ⁢of game participation or offensive‌ production in the subsequent seasons.

“`Data courtesy ‍of DobberProspects.com

Ronnie Attard aimed to make an impact as he commenced the 2022-23 season ⁤with the Flyers. However, after playing just two games, ⁣he spent some time watching from ⁤the press box before transitioning to Lehigh Valley for the remainder of ⁤the season, where he tallied 20 assists and a total of 32 points over 68 games.

Even with his challenges at the professional ‌level, Attard has emerged ⁣as a‌ vital asset for the Phantoms. Not only ‍does he contribute offensively, but he also effectively protects the ⁣defensive‌ zone and plays‌ a highly aggressive style that requires him to adapt to various circumstances, ‍a challenge ⁤he ⁣embraces.

Attard possesses a strong leadership quality⁣ that‍ has been evident throughout ‍his junior career, having been appointed team captain in Tri-City ‌(USHL) as well as an alternate captain during his ‌senior season at Western Michigan. As one of⁣ the more experienced prospects in ⁤the Phantoms’ locker ⁣room, he carries significant influence on and off the ice while also standing his ground, unafraid to confront⁢ challenges head-on.

to throw⁤ the body or drop the gloves if necessary.

At just 25 years old, ‍he still possesses significant upside and would serve as an excellent choice⁣ for a second or third-pairing defenseman. He⁤ can effectively play on both sides of the ice and provides a solid alternative for special teams. As a large-framed, offensive-minded defenseman, his defensive skills continue to evolve;⁢ however, he demonstrates the potential to develop into ‍a multi-category defenseman.

Despite having limited exposure at the ⁢NHL level, Attard remains a valuable asset to⁤ the‌ organization for various reasons. Observations made while watching him play reveal several standout qualities, but for him ⁢to make a lasting impact, he‍ must focus on refining ⁤those skills during training camp and throughout the season. This‍ diligence‌ is essential if he hopes to secure a position ⁢on a crowded‌ roster.

16. Spencer Gill, Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL)

17 • D‌ • 6’4″ / 185 Ibs • Right handed • Drafted: 2024 second round, 59th overall pick.

THN 2023-24 Ranking: N/A

Spencer Gill, a⁢ new addition at 17 years old,⁢ hails from Riverview, New Brunswick, Canada. His impressive height provides a‍ significant advantage for his ‍age, but he will need‌ to add muscle over the coming years to establish a more enduring frame. The Flyers were drawn to Gill during the 2024 draft as he was one of the youngest players in his class.

Although there exists an average two-year age difference between him and his competitors,⁤ Gill exhibits a high level of aggression and competitiveness, traits he developed growing up with two brothers. After spending two years in the QMJHL and representing Team Canada at WHC-17 and WJC-18, he has⁤ shown considerable improvement⁤ and potential ⁢over the past year.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" ‌height="203" data-attachment-id="101196" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/?attachment_id=101196" data-orig-file="Data courtesy of DobberProspects.com

This year, he demonstrated remarkable improvement in his scoring, increasing from ⁤just 4 ‌points in 41 games during his rookie season, where he struggled with less ice ⁣time, ‌to a⁣ far more polished performance in his second year. He secured significant playing time and accumulated an impressive total of 46 points (12‍ goals, 34 assists) over 65 ⁢games.

Although Gill’s tall frame may sometimes make his movements appear ⁤awkward or unrefined, he⁣ plays an‍ essential⁣ role on the back end.

Gill effectively exploits the opposition in⁣ the‌ defensive zone. While⁤ he participates in rushes and assists in moving the puck up the ice, his explosiveness is not a‌ characteristic to ⁢anticipate from him.

For Gill, production goes beyond just scoring points. He demonstrates reliability on both sides of the⁣ puck, showcasing ‌a strong shot that offers a dependable upside in various aspects of play.‍ He displays agility and composure, whether he has possession or not. Constantly striving ‍for improvement, he presents a dynamic presence ‌across⁢ all three zones, demonstrating play anticipation and effectively maintaining the line. Instead of retreating, he aggressively⁣ keeps the puck in the offensive‍ zone.

With a high hockey IQ and notable agility for⁤ his size, Gill may not be the fastest player, ‍but he maintains strong balance and uses his edges to make ‌sharp cuts. He excels at creating‍ open lanes, manipulating opponents during transitions, and keeping defenders at bay when entering the offensive zone, an aspect he also works‌ to counteract in his own game. His ability to read and anticipate plays is at an NHL level; he ‌knows when to engage in offensive efforts and when to focus ⁢on defense without⁤ becoming overly aggressive.
