BROOKLYN, MI – The actor famously recognized for his role in “Malcolm in the Middle” found himself right in the middle of the standings during the NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway on Friday, Aug. 16.
The star, who has transitioned to racing, secured 12th place out of 24 participants in the Henry Ford Health 200 for the ARCA Series, with 18-year-old Connor Zilisch claiming victory.
Unfortunately, Muniz faced an early setback due to a spark plug problem that caused a loss of horsepower for his No. 33 Ford. While his team made repairs during the first caution, he found himself a lap down.
“It’s tough being out there and getting passed,” Muniz remarked. “We had to wait until the next caution to make the fix.”
Once the repairs were completed, Muniz managed to climb from 15th place to ultimately finish 12th.
“After we changed it, we were able to run some solid laps,” Muniz noted.

This race marked Muniz’s return to the track after a recent illness. A parasite had affected him for nearly a month earlier this summer, but he has reported feeling much better.
During his last visit to MIS, Muniz achieved his highest career finish in racing, placing fifth. Though he has faced challenges since then, he remains hopeful.
“I’ve been dealing with a lot of bad luck in racing for nearly a year now, so I believe things have to turn around soon,” Muniz stated.
