On Thursday night, the Flyers concluded their preseason with a 5-4 victory against the Devils at the Wells Fargo Center.
Goals for the Flyers came from Olle Lycksell, J.R. Avon, Emil Andrae, Anthony Richard, and Noah Cates. Andrae (one goal, two assists), Richard (one goal, two assists), and Oliver Bonk (two assists) all notched multi-point performances.
The Flyers tallied goals from Avon, Richard, and Cates during power plays, with Cates netting the decisive goal.
Alexei Kolosov made his debut in Philadelphia, stepping in as the goaltender midway through the contest.
However, the final preseason game did not serve as a traditional dress rehearsal for the Flyers. New Jersey’s NHL squad is currently in Prague, Czechia, for the 2024 NHL Global Series, prompting the Flyers to field a more inexperienced, Phantoms-heavy roster.
Assistant coaches Darryl Williams, Brad Shaw, Rocky Thompson, and skills coach Angelo Ricci guided the Flyers from the bench.
The Flyers concluded the exhibition season with a record of 4-3-0.
• Ivan Fedotov, in his last preparation game, played half the match and saved seven of eight shots.
“I thought he performed well; he remained engaged in the game,” Williams remarked. “He played well until he left the ice.”
The Flyers’ backup goalkeeper made 55 saves on 63 shots across four preseason games.
Kolosov returned for the second time during the exhibition schedule, making 10 saves. Of the three goals he allowed, the second was a power play shot.
He wrapped up his shortened preseason with 17 saves out of 21 shots.
A situation that began in May caused Kolosov to miss rookie camp and over a week of main camp. The 22-year-old prospect is expected to begin the season with the AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley.

• Andrae showcased the performance the Flyers sought from their young defensemen during the preseason. The 22-year-old achieved a goal, four assists, and a plus-3 rating across four games.
“From the outset of camp, he approached it with determination,” Williams noted. “With each game, his improvement and growing confidence were evident. You could see that tonight.”
The second-round pick from 2020 is currently the frontrunner to be the Flyers’ first defenseman called up when needed.
“Although he’s smaller in stature, that doesn’t hinder him from accessing challenging areas on the ice,” Erik Johnson remarked. “He played with great confidence, tallied significant points in the minors, and is on the verge of earning an NHL position, which is impressive. He has truly deserved all he has attained. … A great guy with a promising future, without a doubt.”
Lycksell extended his impressive preseason by scoring the game-opening goal in the first period. Bonk, the Flyers’ second first-round pick from 2023, made a clever play along the blue line to assist.
As a player on the bubble, Lycksell recorded two goals, two assists, 13 shots, and a plus-1 rating in five exhibition matches. Interestingly, he did not practice with the main team group on Thursday morning. More updates on that and the roster outlook to follow.
• Sawyer Boulton and Hunter McDonald both engaged in fights for the Flyers. Boulton squared off twice with Devils forward Samuel Laberge.
• Regarding health concerns outside of the game, Nick Seeler missed practice on Thursday. Williams mentioned that the defenseman was still experiencing numbness and the aftereffects of a puck striking his leg Tuesday night.
“It seemed like a harmless play, but it hit that peroneal nerve,” Seeler explained after practicing on Wednesday. “It just went numb, rendering my foot and leg non-responsive. … I stood up and thought, ‘What in the world just happened? I can’t feel my leg at all.’
Tyson Foerster returned to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday’s session due to swelling from a blocked shot during Tuesday night’s game.
• The Flyers are slated for practice on Friday at 11 a.m. ET. They must finalize their season-opening roster by Monday at 5 p.m. ET. The regular season kicks off next Friday against the Canucks in Vancouver, British Columbia (10 p.m. ET/NBCSP).
