NASCAR spotter Eddie D’Hondt has signed a multi-year contract with Spire ‍Motorsports, joining​ the No. 7 team. He will begin working with driver Justin Haley in 2025, making a notable transition from his current role at Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR).

D’Hondt announced his move to ​Spire Motorsports via his X account, sharing the Spire‍ logo with the​ message:

“I’m thrilled‌ to⁣ announce I’ve signed a multi-year deal with @SpireMotorsport and the #7 team. I can’t wait to begin​ this journey and contribute to⁤ our progress.”

The new chapter at Spire Motorsports⁢ is set⁤ to⁤ kick off during The Clash at Bowman-Gray Stadium in⁣ February. In this role, ⁤the 65-year-old D’Hondt will continue his collaboration with Rodney Childers, who ​presently serves as the‌ crew chief for Berry but will take on ​the same position for Haley when D’Hondt officially starts in 2025.

D’Hondt’s NASCAR career began in 1981 when he first raced as a driver in Street Stocks at Islip Speedway and Riverhead ​Raceway on Long Island. He progressed to the NASCAR Whelen‌ Modified Tour in 1986 ⁣and then made the move ‍to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1996 to ‌explore opportunities within the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Apart from spotting, D’Hondt has a background in team ownership and management, having led D’Hondt Motorsports ‌in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series. Notable drivers under his banner included Danny O’Quinn, Jr., David Gilliland, and‍ Kyle Busch.

D’Hondt’s expertise spans ‍multiple Series within NASCAR, including the‍ Cup Series, Xfinity Series, Truck ⁣Series, as well as events in ⁣the Rolex and Modifieds categories. His extensive experience with top ⁢drivers‌ and teams, particularly during his 12 years at ‌Hendrick Motorsports,⁤ where he contributed‍ to numerous victories including Chase Elliott’s 2020 championship win, showcases his skill and versatility.
