Duane Washington Jr. will continue his professional basketball career with his fourth NBA team in as many years.
Washington has been traded from the New York Knicks to the Charlotte Hornets in a three-team deal that transfers star forward Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Knicks in exchange for forward Julius Randle and guard Donte DiVincenzo.
The Hornets are acquiring three second-round picks (two from the Knicks, one from Minnesota), in addition to DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown, and Duane Washington Jr., as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns-Julius Randle-Donte DiVincenzo trade, sources inform me, @JonKrawczynski and @FredKatz.

In this same transaction, former Ohio State forward Keita Bates-Diop was also traded from the Knicks to the Timberwolves.
After going undrafted in 2021, Washington signed a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers, where he participated in 48 games during the 2021-22 season, averaging 9.9 points and 1.8 assists per game. After that season, he was waived by the Pacers and subsequently signed with the Phoenix Suns, playing in 31 games in 2022-23 and averaging 7.9 points per game.
After being waived once more, the Knicks signed him to a two-way contract; however, he did not appear in any NBA games for the team, competing only for their G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks. He went through the waiver process and was re-signed three times.
It remains unclear if Washington will actually play for the Hornets, as he signed with Partizan, a basketball team in Serbia, this summer. Although Partizan allowed Washington to be traded to the Hornets, reports suggest that the team intends to bring him back.
Multiple NBA and international sources informed @spotrac that the Duane Washington Jr. sign-and-trade component of the Knicks-Timberwolves-Hornets deal required significant creativity from the NBA, FIBA, and Partizan sides.
Partizan has several crucial Euroleague games coming up.
