NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin intensified his rivalry with the series on Monday, branding the outcome of Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway a “sham.”

The “DVP” refers to the Damaged Vehicle Policy, which allows drivers involved in an accident five minutes to make repairs before being required to meet minimum speed. Failing to do so results in their disqualification from the race.
Following the extensive 28-car incident on Sunday, NASCAR issued a red flag to briefly stop the race. At this juncture, the DVP is paused, and teams cannot work on their vehicles. However, when the race reverted back to yellow flag conditions, some cars remained halted on the backstretch while crews commenced repairs on damaged vehicles.

According to Section 3.3.3.7 of the NASCAR Cup Series rulebook:
- A. Energy absorbing (EA) foam blocks must be installed on both the left and right side door outer surfaces.
- B. If door foam is damaged or crushed, it must be replaced. As of May 4, 2022, any door foam missing its skin (including all machined foams) must also be replaced.
Despite this, NASCAR did not mandate Stenhouse Jr. to replace the door foam, and he ultimately won the race. This certainly adds weight to Hamlin’s comments.
