DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — While the journey to the title was different this year compared to last, the outcome remained unchanged: Connor Hall, based at Langley Speedway, secured his second consecutive NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championship.
After making history as the first Langley driver to secure the championship in the top division of the series in its 74-year history, Hall has now become the first to win it back-to-back. The joy was just as profound in his second triumph.
“I never imagined I would hear that title once, let alone twice,” Hall expressed when reflecting on his achievement as a two-time NASCAR champion. “It feels amazing. This year’s experience differs from the last; I stumbled into the opportunity to compete for the championship last year. This time, we undertook meticulous planning and dedicated considerable effort at the start of the season to prepare for it.”
Hall’s strategy for claiming the 2024 title was meticulously crafted and methodical.
ical, as the 27-year-old driver understood what it takes to secure a NASCAR championship. This year, Hall celebrated 18 victories and finished second in five of the other eight races he participated in, consistently placing in the top 10 throughout the season.
Two standout moments of Hall’s season occurred during the Virginia Triple Crown races. After starting from the back due to a flat tire in qualifying, Hall spectacularly navigated through a fiercely competitive field to clinch victory in the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 at South Boston Speedway. He later secured a second-place finish in the Hampton Heat 200 at his local track, Langley Speedway, once again facing tough competition.
Success often paves the way for new opportunities, and this year, Hall’s partnership with Nelson Motorsports to compete for the CARS Tour championship required meticulous planning for the 2024 Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championship battle.
“I understood the intricacies of the points system and recognized what I needed to improve upon from last year,” Hall remarked. “I realized I couldn’t skip any CARS Tour events due to my commitment with Nelson, so I knew more planning was essential. Luckily, all that effort proved fruitful.
“It looks impressive on paper, but there’s one crucial detail that often gets overlooked – all the planning in the world is meaningless if you’re not winning races. I was thrilled to see our cars perform as they did last year while continuing to enhance their performance.”
Hall’s journey began in his father’s garage with a small team made up of family and friends. He primarily raced throughout the Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championship season from that same modest garage, except for a few select races, including those in the Virginia Triple Crown at South Boston Speedway and Langley Speedway, which he competed in with Nelson Motorsports.
After clinching his first NASCAR championship a year ago, Hall expressed, “I started Late Model racing in my dad’s garage, and we secured a national championship from that very same place.”
Currently, he has achieved two championships through that family-run operation.
“Connor embodies the mission of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, which is to highlight emerging talent from our grassroots programs,” stated Joseph Dennewitz, Managing Director of NASCAR Regional. “His growth as a racer, both on and off the track, has made him an outstanding ambassador for the Weekly Series as he sought back-to-back titles.”
Alongside the Weekly Series national championship, Hall also earned the Southeast Region and Virginia state titles.
“Connor has established himself as a reliable winner on NASCAR’s home tracks,” added Bruce Starnes, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchant of Advance Auto Parts. “He is an exceptional driver destined for a bright future in the sport. We extend our congratulations to Connor and his family for another remarkable season and for securing back-to-back NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championships.”
Advance Auto Parts, a premier provider of automotive aftermarket parts, will celebrate five years as the entitlement partner for the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series in the upcoming season.
The complete list of the regional and state Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series champions, along with the Jostens Rookie of the Year awards and the champions from other national divisions, will be announced in the coming days.
Hall’s Late Model Stock Car season is far from over. This weekend, he will compete in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway—the most significant, lucrative, and prestigious NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race in the nation, marking the final event in the Virginia Triple Crown series, taking place on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:00 p.m. Practice and qualifying are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.
Hall is at the top of the Virginia Triple Crown standings, boasting an average finish of 1.5 in the initial two races, having secured a victory at South Boston and a second-place finish at his local track, Langley.
Peyton Sellers, a two-time national champion of the Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series (2005, 2021), is currently in second place in the Virginia Triple Crown standings, following his finishes of fourth at South Boston and third at Langley.
Additionally, Hall is still in pursuit of the CARS Tour championship, holding a narrow one-point edge over Brenden “Butterbean” Queen with only two races remaining in the season.
