Chelsea’s narrow 1-0 victory against Bournemouth has set a new Premier League record for the highest number of yellow cards issued in a single match.
The former record for the most yellow cards in a Premier League encounter was 13, established by Tottenham during their 2–1 victory over Sheffield United in September 2023.

With Saturday’s contentious match at the Vitality Stadium, the previous record was surpassed, as referee Anthony Taylor showed an astonishing 14 yellow cards.
Among these, two were issued during a penalty that Chelsea conceded in the first half—one to goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and the other to Adam Smith.
Although Sanchez was responsible for conceding the penalty,
After a misguided back pass from Wesley Fofana, he redeemed himself by expertly saving Evanilson’s penalty kick.
Three yellow cards were issued starting from the 87th minute, contributing to a remarkable piece of Premier League history.
Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, opted not to comment on the officiating of referee Taylor during his post-match interview.
He remarked, ”I will refrain from discussing the referee.
“I’ve previously voiced my opinions and it hasn’t made a difference, so I have decided to try the opposite approach: to remain silent and see what unfolds.”
When asked if he believed the match was aggressive, he simply replied, “No comment.”
Ultimately, Chelsea emerged victorious with a score of 1-0 on the south coast, thanks to substitute Christopher Nkunku, who struck the winning goal in the 86th minute.
He linked up with Chelsea debutant Jadon Sancho, who was awarded man of the match from the bench, before Nkunku found the bottom right corner with his shot.

<span class="article__mediaNkunku netted the sole goal of the match along the south coast.
Although Bournemouth pushed hard in the final moments, Chelsea managed to secure the victory, marking their first away clean sheet since October 2023.
However, they can consider themselves somewhat fortunate to emerge with all three points.
Goalkeeper Sanchez was the standout player for Chelsea, making a remarkable seven saves, including a critical stop during a penalty.
Despite having less than half the shots compared to the hosts and a smaller share of possession, Chelsea demonstrated their resilience to claim the win.
This victory has propelled them to seventh place in the standings, tying them on points with their London rivals Arsenal, who are in sixth.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth has fallen to 11th place, though manager Iraola is likely pleased with the performance from his team.
