Numerous alumni from the Washington Capitals showcased their enduring skills at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Friday.
After the 2024-25 Capitals squad wrapped up their last practice before Opening Night, close to forty former players divided into two teams for a friendly match celebrating the franchise’s 50th anniversary season. Team Labre faced off against Team Langway in an exciting game that ended 8-6, featuring two goals and some antics from the one and only, Craig Laughlin.
“I have a disagreement with the coaching staff, Al, that’s all there is to it,” Laughlin declared to Monumental Sports Network’s Al Koken before the game commenced. “I can’t believe they’re not starting their top player, but I still hope the team… well, they can win, as long as I manage to score, I’ll be content today.”
Expressing more of his skepticism regarding Yvon Labre’s coaching, Laughlin disclosed that he would be utilizing a stick from another hockey legend for the game. The Monumental Sports Network commentator made his way onto the ice brandishing a very recognizable Bauer Supreme TotalOne stick.
“I’m using Alex Ovechkin’s stick today, so there must be some goals left in it,” Laughlin remarked.

It seems that the Great Eight’s magic lingered in the stick, as Laughlin, who amassed 136 career NHL goals, scored during the second period. This helped spark a comeback for Team Labre, overcoming a 5-2 deficit to eventually win 8-6, which included another goal by Laughlin in the closing minutes.
