After his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Richmond Raceway in April, Bubba Pollard expressed gratitude for the opportunity but remained uncertain about returning.
His hesitation stemmed from various reasons.
Primarily, participating in more races would necessitate securing financial backing, something the 37-year-old Super Late Model star currently lacks. His race at Richmond was supported by Rheem and JR Jones, but it was intended as a one-time tribute to one of the notable grassroots racers of his time.
Pollard prefers to see himself as the ‘Bubba’ of his era rather than being likened to Dick Trickle, a compliment he doesn’t seek. His identity revolves around being a third-generation racer, track operator, and waste disposal worker. Above all, aside from his family, he is passionate about winning and stands as the most accomplished driver in his field during this period.

It turns out that SANY America from Peachtree, Georgia is interested in that guy as well, which led to Pollard’s return for his second Xfinity Series race, this time with Sam Hunt Racing.
“A lot has changed,” Pollard remarked. “I’m a racer, and I want to compete. While I’m not saying I intend to race consistently at this level, it’s always enjoyable, and I can’t say for certain what it could lead to.
“It requires strong partners and sponsorships like SANY to make this happen. During our discussions, I found myself questioning the decision due to my age, family commitments, and my enjoyment of my current work.
“However, after seeking advice from others, they encouraged me not to live with regret, reflecting on what I wish I had done but didn’t.”
Pollard is fully committed, no matter where this opportunity may lead, and he credits the significance of a company of SANY’s stature believing in him.
“It was very meaningful to me,” Pollard stated. “The key point is that they could have chosen anyone, yet they opted for me because we’re local, and I felt a strong sense of responsibility to meet their expectations given their faith in me and the commitment they’ve shown.”

Pollard has recently enlisted the help of agent Kurt Smith from Rising Star Management Group, forged through the connection created when Smith’s son, Sammy, competed in Late Models before transitioning to full-time racing in the Xfinity Series. Additionally, Pollard has a familial tie to the JR Motorsports No. 8 team, where his cousin, Philip Bell, serves as crew chief for Sammy Smith.
Pollard expresses great confidence in Smith’s ability to explore potential opportunities resulting from these partnerships.
“They’ve treated me exceptionally well,” Pollard shared regarding Rising Star, “and I couldn’t have achieved this without their support, so we’ll see how it unfolds.”
What does the future hold?
“Our aim is to compete in Late Models as frequently as possible while attempting to piece together additional races, although the specifics are still uncertain,” Pollard stated. “I plan to participate in the (Snowball) Derby and Martinsville prior to that, but most likely, we will focus on Late Model racing.”
Pollard is enthusiastic about collaborating with Sam Hunt and his team, whom he regards as true racers. Furthermore, he is eager to drive the No. 26 car, a number that has represented his family throughout much of his Late Model career, aside from a brief period racing for the iconic Ronnie Sanders and his time with JR Motorsports in both Xfinity and Late Model Stocks.

And indeed, he expressed a desire to feature his 26 font on the car for the Martinsville race.
“Yeah, that would have been awesome,” Pollard remarked. “I don’t think NASCAR…”
I wasn’t going to let that happen. We discussed it, but I still believe that racing the 26 in the Xfinity Series is the most exciting opportunity. Although we could have ended up in the 24 car, it turned out to be the 26.
“Initially, I expressed my reluctance to participate in the diecast deal, but for the 26, I’m willing to do it one more time.”
Pollard recognizes and respects fellow Georgia Late Model driver, now NASCAR prospect, Corey Heim, noting that Heim has almost secured a win with that car. This motivates Pollard to aim for a similar performance in the upcoming race next week.
“It’s an excellent car, and Corey is an outstanding driver. I’ve tried to learn from him as much as I can,” Pollard shared. “I’m not sure if I’ll have the chance to speak with him before the race, but I do know he was very close to winning the pole for the spring race. That car has clearly shown speed.”
“I know the potential is there, and I just need to seize the opportunity.”
