HONOLULU — The No. 16 University of Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball team concluded its home season with two losses at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex on Sunday, falling too No. 10 California 5-0 and Grand Canyon University 4-1. The day also featured Senior Night festivities,honoring Amirah Ali,Alana Embry,Kendall kaelin,and Cami Loker.
cal Sweeps Hawai’i in First Match
In the opening match, Hawai’i (12-19) faced a strong Cal team (22-6) in a rematch of Saturday’s close contest. This time, Cal dominated, securing four of five courts in straight sets. The Rainbow Wahine fought hard at the No. 2 court, but Sarah Burton and Caprice Lorenzo ultimately fell to Cal’s Mila Vugrincic and Maile Somera with scores of 21-19, 13-21, 15-9. This marked the first time in 10 all-time meetings that the Golden Bears swept the Rainbow wahine.
Grand Canyon Edges Out Hawai’i in Second Match
The second match saw Hawai’i suffer a narrow defeat against Grand Canyon. Despite a strong effort, the BeachBows were unable to capitalize on key opportunities, ultimately losing 4-1. details of individual court results were not instantly available.

HONOLULU — Grand Canyon University (19-8) rallied to defeat the University of Hawai’i in a hard-fought beach volleyball match, overcoming an initial deficit to secure the win. Earlier, the university of California, Berkeley, swept Hawai’i 5-0.
GCU Mounts Comeback Victory Over Hawai’i
Sydney Amiatu and Kristen Serrano initially put hawai’i on the board, notching their second win of the weekend with a 21-18, 21-19 victory over Madi Bolge and Regan Holmer of GCU. However, the Antelopes responded by taking the next three flights, each in comeback fashion after dropping the first set.
The decisive point came at the No.2 flight, where Katie Keefe and Rhea Kohl of GCU prevailed over hawai’i’s pair of Burton and lorenzo in a dramatic 15-21, 23-21, 19-17 thriller. With the match already decided, GCU’s Ines Piret and Adrianna Ferro defeated Ali and Embry at the No. 1 flight,also in three sets,to complete the 3-2 victory.
Cal Dominates Hawai’i with a 5-0 Sweep
In an earlier match,the University of California,Berkeley,showcased their dominance by sweeping Hawai’i 5-0. Emma Donley and Portia sherman set the tone with a 21-17, 21-12 victory over Ali and Embry at the no. 1 flight. Cal continued their strong performance with Vugrincic and Somera defeating Burton and Lorenzo 21-19, 13-21, 15-9 at the No. 2 flight. Further extending their lead, Gia Fisher and Sierra Caffo secured a win against Jesse Mann and Jasmine Wandeler with scores of 21-16, 21-14. Cal’s dominance continued with Ella Sears and Alex Young defeating Sophie Buschmann and Sydney Miller 21-17, 21-12.
Looking Ahead: Big West Championship
The Rainbow Wahine will have a bye this coming weekend. They will then head to Santa Monica for the 2025 Big West Championship, scheduled for April 24-25. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship in early May.
