The Giants are looking for additional depth; however, they have several promising young prospects who could evolve into impactful players in the future.
3 players who have made an impression
Eldridge’s remarkable ascent has been widely noted, and he is gaining further experience this year with the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League. Standing at 6-foot-7, this powerful hitter seems ready to join the Majors as early as 2025, fulfilling the Giants’ need for a strong-hitting first baseman.
Davidson, who was signed as an undrafted free agent last year, made his debut on MLB Pipeline’s list of Top 30 Prospects this summer. He achieved a batting average of .327, an OPS of 1.042, and hit 11 home runs in 63 games across the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Single-A San Jose in 2024. This left-handed batter received second-half team MVP honors for San Jose and is now playing alongside Eldridge in the AFL. At 22, Davidson boasts one of the best power/speed combinations in the Giants’ organization and has the athleticism to remain in center field in his future.
SS Jhonny Level (Giants’ No. 13 prospect)
After receiving a $997,500 signing bonus from the Giants in January, Level made a seamless transition into professional baseball. The 17-year-old Venezuelan recorded a .275 batting average, a .909 OPS, 10 home runs, and 18 stolen bases over 48 games in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. He has drawn comparisons to three-time All-Star Rafael Furcal and Guardians infielder Brayan Rocchio. As a switch-hitter, Level has a smooth swing from both sides of the plate and demonstrates the range to remain in the infield.
2 breakout players to watch in 2025
Selected as the 13th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Tibbs made a quick ascent after batting .415 with a .941 OPS in nine games at Single-A San Jose. However, he struggled at High-A Eugene, averaging just .134 with a .455 OPS and two home runs over 17 games. At 22 years old, he is expected to return to the Northwest League at the beginning of the 2025 season, but he could advance rapidly if he adjusts to the higher competition while continuing to exhibit the exceptional swing decisions that led to his first-round selection.
OF Rayner Arias (Giants’ No. 5 prospect)
Arias, a standout from the Giants’ 2023 international signing class, made waves by hitting .414 with a 1.332 OPS, four home runs, and 21 RBIs during 16 games in the DSL last season before suffering a broken left wrist while attempting a diving catch in shallow center field. Regarded as a breakout candidate for this season, he faced yet another wrist injury during Spring Training, preventing his return until June. In his comeback, Arias batted .250 with a .735 OPS and no home runs in 25 games in the ACL this season. Only 18 years old, he is likely to receive more opportunities to develop his impressive right-handed swing, provided he can stay injury-free.
One significant question for the upcoming season
Crawford, the Giants’ No. 9 prospect and a first-round Draft pick in 2022, appeared poised to reach the Majors this season after posting a 2.95 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings across Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. Unfortunately, he has not pitched since June 5 due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder, which required surgical repair in late September. The recovery period is estimated to take 10 to 12 months, putting the 23-year-old at risk of missing the majority—if not all—of the 2025 season.
Crawford has also faced setbacks during his recovery from Tommy John surgery, accumulating only 37 1/3 innings since turning professional. This latest injury raises questions about how it may influence his future prospects with the Giants, particularly as he will be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft next offseason.
