Anthony Volpe is embarking on his initial postseason journey with the Yankees.
However, unlike many other young players, the shortstop was well aware of the expectations in The Bronx long before he became a first-round pick in 2019.
“For me, having grown up a fan, the essence of the Yankees is about winning and striving for a World Series,” Volpe stated prior to a workout at the Stadium on Sunday, ahead of Game 1 of the ALCS against Cleveland.
“That has always been … the benchmark,” Volpe remarked. “At least from my perspective, getting drafted as an 18-year-old and progressing through the system has shown me how they operate internally. The way they manage the players is first-class for a reason, and that reason is to win.”

With some of the finest at-bats during the series against Kansas City, Volpe mentioned on Sunday that he will maintain a similar approach, even if previous rounds didn’t yield many hits.
“I believe we’re in an excellent position,” stated Volpe, who recorded 3 hits in 12 at-bats along with four walks, even though he had multiple well-hit balls that resulted in outs. “However, at the same time, I don’t think we’ve showcased our best baseball yet. … I feel we are peaking at just the right moment.”
