Record Turnout for AFL Queensland’s Umpire4Fun Initiative
BRISBANE, Australia – AFL Queensland’s Umpire4Fun programme launched its 2025 training sessions last week, drawing record attendance across South East Queensland. The introductory sessions, aimed at recruiting and training new umpires, were held at multiple locations and saw enthusiastic participation from individuals eager to learn the fundamentals of officiating Australian Rules Football.
Umpire4Fun: Cultivating Grassroots Umpiring Talent
Umpire4Fun is an AFL Queensland initiative designed to support the growth of young umpires within community clubs throughout the state. The program targets individuals aged 12 and older, providing a practical introduction to umpiring and fostering a deeper understanding of the game.
Hands-On Training Boosts Skills and Confidence
Experienced AFL Queensland umpires and coaches led the sessions, creating a supportive environment for newcomers to develop their skills and confidence. Participants received hands-on training, learning the essential techniques and rules necessary for effective officiating.

Building on the success of the introductory sessions, AFL Queensland will host a series of on-field Umpire4Fun training sessions next week at the following locations:

- Brendale (South Pine Sports Complex) – 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Zillmere – 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
- Kedron – 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Mount Gravatt - 5:30 p.m.to 6:30 p.m.
- Sherwood – 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Alexandra Hills – 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Tweed/Coolangatta - 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (QLD Time)
Wednesday, April 9:
- Moreton Bay – 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Coomera – 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Labrador - 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Maroochydore – 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
