Asheville, NC – A star-studded tennis event raised more than $1 million for Asheville hurricane recovery efforts on Sunday.”Stars Servin’ up Love,” featured tennis legends Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick alongside current top 10 players Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula.
A Community effort for Hurricane Recovery
The event, held at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville, drew a crowd of 4,000 keen fans. All proceeds will benefit four local charities: The Always Asheville Fund, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, United way of Asheville and Buncombe county, and the Asheville Tennis Association.
Chris Corl, General Manager of Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville, emphasized the enduring support for the region. “It’s very encouraging to see people still caring about this region as of how news cycles work sometimes you fall out of the news cycle and help slows down, but it’s nice to see that people still care this many months out,so hope to see more of that,” he said.
A Night of Tennis, Laughter, and community
Beyond the remarkable tennis display, the event featured a playful doubles match involving Asheville firefighters Lauren McAdam and Matt Ballance, umpired by Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer.
“I was grateful in the moment and certainly now that they’re hear and present and trying to help out,” said McAdam about sharing the court with tennis stars.
Ballance, who teamed up with Navarro for the victory, added, ” It wasn’t on my bingo card by any means.”
the success of “Stars Servin’ Up Love” follows the “Concert for Carolina” which raised funds for hurricane relief earlier this year. Corl noted that the “Stars Servin’ Up Love” event generated approximately $289 per attendee, mirroring the success of the previous concert.
