Two Sycamore High School seniors Commit to College Football
SYCAMORE – Carter York and Thatcher Friedrichs, both seniors at Sycamore High School, recently made their college football commitments official. York will join South Dakota State while Friedrichs will play for North Central College.
York and Friedrichs’ signing comes on the heels of a successful four-year run for the Spartans football team. Over the past three years, they’ve achieved a remarkable 32-4 record, reaching at least the second round of the playoffs each season.
Friedrichs, a versatile player who kicked and punted for sycamore, will continue his athletic career as a punter for the Cardinals. North Central college is fresh off an NCAA Division III national championship win and impressed Friedrichs with their team chemistry and established program.
“They win games,” Friedrichs said. “They have great team chemistry. I love what they are building there.”
Beyond the football program, Friedrichs was drawn to North Central’s exceptional exercise science program and its doctorate of physical therapy program, a field he aspires to enter.
York, who played both safety and receiver for Sycamore, will contribute to South Dakota State’s impressive defense. The Jackrabbits have been a formidable force in FCS football, reaching the semifinals seven times, the championship three times, and winning national titles in 2022 and 2023.
“It’s just the people and the culture,” York said. “The South Dakota State culture, I just love it. I love everything about the school and the football program and everything.”
While he had other opportunities, including a preferred walk-on offer from Illinois and a full offer from Valparaiso,York opted for the preferred walk-on chance with the Jackrabbits. He plans to redshirt his freshman year, allowing him to learn and adjust to playing defensive back.
