TORONTO — The Blue Jays’ farm system mirrored the performance of the major league team in 2024; there were a few success stories, but overall it fell short.
Injuries severely impacted the team’s top pitching prospects, with former No. 1 prospect Ricky Tiedemann only able to make a handful of appearances before undergoing Tommy John surgery. On the position player side, Orelvis Martinez (No. 2) had a golden opportunity to shine in the second half of the season, but he served an 80-game suspension for PEDs instead.

“We selected later in the draft, picking 20th last year. Losing draft picks due to free agent signings and trading young talent has an impact,” said president and CEO Mark Shapiro recently. “While we need to keep improving our talent acquisition, considering the circumstances, we still performed quite well. We also capitalized on this year’s setbacks, adding 13 players to our system, significantly boosting its depth.”

RHP Jake Bloss (No. 3) — Breaking the mold a bit for Bloss, who made a name for himself with the Astros before being traded to the Blue Jays as part of the Yusei Kikuchi deal.
