The 14th annual Rookie Showcase organized by the National Hockey League Players Association is set to take place on September 4, 2024, at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex, the training facility for the Washington Capitals, located in Arlington, Virginia.
Sponsored by Upper Deck, this event will see many of the top prospects and incoming rookies donning their respective NHL team uniforms. They will be photographed for their official trading cards for the 2024-25 season. Video footage of the attendees will also be captured. In addition, the prospects will have opportunities to showcase their on-ice skills as well as participate in off-ice activities.
Tyson Foerster, a right winger for the Flyers, was a participant at last year’s event. Notable past attendees have included former Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov (2016) and current left winger Joel Farabee (2019). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event experienced a two-year hiatus, which meant that Morgan Frost in 2020 and Cam York in 2021 could not participate.
This year, the list of 33 invitees includes highly regarded Flyers right wing prospect Matvei Michkov, who is expected to stand out at the 2024 Rookie Showcase.
Additionally, Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov, who played in three NHL games towards the end of the 2023-24 season, is scheduled to participate in the 2024 Rookie Showcase in anticipation of his first full season in North America.
Although Fedotov will turn 28 on November 28, and therefore does not qualify as a rookie under NHL rules—where the maximum age for a rookie in the 2024-25 season is set at 26 as of September 15, 2024—there is no specific age limit for taking part in the Rookie Showcase itself, as it is an event organized by the Players Association.
Across the league, Michkov is among the most eagerly anticipated rookie prospects. Other notable names attending this year’s Showcase include Macklin Celebrini, the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, and Will Smith, picked fourth overall in 2023.
The following 33 prospects are set to attend the 2024 Rookie Showcase, listed alphabetically: Marek Alscher (Florida Panthers), Lian Bichsel (Dallas Stars), Gavin Brindley (Columbus Blue Jackets), Seamus Casey (New Jersey Devils), Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks), Nikita Chibrikov (Winnipeg Jets), Easton Cowan (Toronto Maple Leafs), Nate Danielson (Detroit Red Wings), Josh Doan (Utah Hockey Club), Dalibor Dvorsky (St. Louis Blues), Ivan Fedotov (Flyers), Cutter Gauthier (Anaheim Ducks), Gage Goncalves (Tampa Bay Lightning), Lane Hutson (Montreal Canadiens), Nikolai Kovalenko (Colorado Avalanche), Jonathan Lekkerimaki (Vancouver Canucks), Artyom Levshunov (Chicago Blackhawks), Logan Mailloux (Montreal Canadiens), Matvei Michkov (Flyers), Ivan Miroshnichenko (Washington Capitals), Logan Morrison (Seattle Kraken), Shakir Mukhamadullin (San Jose Sharks), Bradly Nadeau (Carolina Hurricanes), Frank Nazar (Chicago Blackhawks), Liam Ohgren (Minnesota Wild), Zack Ostapchuk (Ottawa Senators), Noah Ostlund (Buffalo Sabres), Vasily Ponomarev (Pittsburgh Penguins), Matt Rempe (New York Rangers), Olivier Rodrigue (Edmonton Oilers), Will Smith (San Jose Sharks), Fedor Svechkov (Nashville Predators), and Akil Thomas (Los Angeles Kings).
