OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Throughout the Nets’ summer open runs, Ziaire Williams showcased impressive performance, which he successfully carried into training camp.
The latest project for the Nets continued to shine with a strong performance during Tuesday’s preseason opener, where they fell to the Clippers with a score of 115-106.
“I’m striving to reinvent myself and demonstrate my rightful place in this league,” Williams stated. “Each day, I’m committed to working my hardest. I’m pouring my heart and soul into defense, and I intend to translate that effort to the offensive side of the game.”

“I’m focused on playing hard. I take my role as a student of the game seriously. I’m the first to arrive and the last to leave; thus, I have faith in my effort, trust in God, and let everything else unfold.”
Williams, a lottery pick in 2021 for Memphis who was primarily obtained for salary purposes, contributed 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting, along with three steals in 23 minutes of play.
His explosive play in open court and ability to cut effectively align perfectly with the coaching style of Jordi Fernandez and the desires of Ben Simmons on the court.
“Honestly, that’s my bread and butter,” Williams stated. “I truly enjoy running fast, playing in open spaces, putting pressure on the defense, and advancing the tempo against the opposing team by picking up full-court.”
“I thrived in a fast-paced environment at Memphis, and I’m thrilled we’re maintaining that tempo here. I’ve played at high speeds throughout my life, whether sprinting, racing friends, or maintaining pace on the court; this is undoubtedly my favorite way to play, and I believe it is where I perform at my best.”
The Nets competed without Nic Claxton, with Jordi Fernandez indicating that their starting center should return by Opening Night at the very latest.
