“It means a lot,” said Edwards. “I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet, but it’s pretty exciting to have hit my first homer to kick off the game and then finish it with a single. I would have been quite disappointed if I hadn’t gotten that single. I typically accumulate many singles, so not getting one would have frustrated me; I’m really glad that I did.”
Like Arraez, Edwards is known for collecting hits. His approach focuses more on getting on base rather than hitting for power, which aligns with his 5-foot-10, 175-pound stature. Throughout his Minor League career, he has recorded just 14 home runs, with one this season at Triple-A Jacksonville. Before this game, he had accumulated seven extra-base hits in MLB.

Taking over the leadoff role following Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s exit from the team, Edwards seized the opportunity and attacked the first pitch of the match—a four-seamer from Tobias Myers clocked at 89.8 mph—sending it soaring over right field for his inaugural homer after 185 plate appearances.
Edwards’ First Career Home Run: A solo shot to right field gave Miami an early advantage of 1-0.

MILWAUKEE — For Xavier Edwards, the rookie shortstop for the Marlins, homers are a rarity. Therefore, when he does manage to hit one, his mind begins to wander towards lofty achievements like hitting for the cycle.
The young infielder achieved his goal by successfully beating an infield throw to shortstop Willy Adames with two outs remaining in the ninth inning against Brewers closer Devin Williams. His sprint speed on that play reached an impressive 29.9 ft/sec (with anything over 30 ft/sec considered elite), marking it as his second-fastest sprint this season.
This achievement marked the third cycle accomplished within Major League Baseball this year; previous instances include Rangers rookie Wyatt Langford on June27 and Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez on July21.
