Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced today that there will be changes in executive leadership as David Wilson prepares for retirement after dedicating over three decades to the organization. On December 16, he will step down from his role as group vice president and president of TRD (Toyota Racing Development), U.S.A., with General Manager Tyler Gibbs set to take over as TRD’s new president.
Throughout his extensive career at TRD, Wilson has occupied numerous positions including design engineer; track support engineer; vice president of operations and engineering; vice president of production and strategic planning; vice president for sales operations and planning; and vice president for finance operations and planning. In January 2014, he was appointed TRD president and has since led Toyota’s motorsports division in the U.S.

During his tenure of over thirty-five years with Toyota Racing Development along with teams including Lexus and TGRNA (Toyota Gazoo Racing North America), Wilson contributed significantly to multiple championships across disciplines such as CART, CORR , Grand-Am , IMSA , Indy Racing League , MTEG , NASCAR , NHRA , SCORE ,and USAC. His influence extended not just within office walls but also onto famed circuits earning triumphs like wins in prestigious events such as the Baja series races—Baja 500 & 1000—the Rolex 24 at Daytona,the Indianapolis 500,and many others.
