Baziège’s New Multisport facility Set to Open This Fall
BAZIÈGE, France — Residents of Baziège, in the Haute-Garonne region, can look forward to a new 1,200-square-meter multisport facility opening in September. The building, currently under construction, aims to provide local associations and schools with a modern space for diverse physical activities.
Alleviating Space Constraints for Local Associations
The new facility addresses the long-standing issue of inadequate space for local sports associations. “It will be a real plus for local associations which currently practice in cramped and unsuitable premises,” said Jean Roussel, Mayor of Baziège.
Previously, some groups were forced to conduct activities in the village hall or other temporary locations. The completion of this project will provide a dedicated and appropriate venue for their activities.
A Wide Range of Activities
The multisport facility will accommodate a variety of sports, including boxing, fencing, basketball, badminton, volleyball, gymnastics, and dance. The space will primarily serve local associations and school programs during the day. “This space will be mainly for associations, and during the day, for schools,” Roussel confirmed.
Investing in the Youth of Baziège
The town is pleased to see the construction of a building that has become a necessity for the community. ”our town is growing, and it was a need for our youth to be able to take ownership of moments for themselves,” Roussel stated.
Roussel added, “I prefer to see our young people in this hall than in the street. Instead of doing silly things outside, they can kick a ball or play a game of rackets in this building.”
Overcoming Delays and Looking Ahead
The project, which was initially conceived six years ago, experienced administrative delays, pushing back the start of construction to 2024.Despite these setbacks, officials are optimistic about the upcoming opening.
“We are hoping for completion of the work in June or July, for an opening in September,” Roussel said. The next step will be allocating time slots to the various associations.
What challenges did local sports associations face before the construction of the new multisport facility?
