Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene has been reinstated from the injured list just in time for the MLB Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Greene, who will celebrate his 24th birthday in late September, has successfully recovered from a right hamstring strain and has completed his rehabilitation assignment. He is set to participate in Sunday’s showcase game against the New York Yankees at Journey Bank Ballpark located in Historic Bowman Field.
This will mark his return to Tigers play since July 25.

During his rehab assignment, Greene participated in two games for Triple-A Toledo, both times playing left field. He recorded 1 hit out of 6 at-bats, with no walks and one strikeout in six plate appearances.
As Greene was reinstated, the Tigers did not have to make a corresponding roster move, because teams receive an additional player for special-event games. Thus, all other roster members, including left-handed hitting position player Zach McKinstry, remain unaffected until Tuesday.
However, a roster adjustment will be necessary before Tuesday’s start of a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

In the 2024 season, Greene has posted a batting average of .264, along with 17 home runs, 51 walks, and 109 strikeouts over 101 games, marking his third year in the MLB. His .842 OPS places him 20th among 140 qualified batters. Greene’s strong performance this season earned him the honor of being selected as a first-time All-Star.
