AVONDALE, Ariz. – The NASCAR Championship Ignition Luncheon returned to Arizona for its annual celebration, where Phoenix Raceway’s track president Latasha Causey chose to shift the focus by introducing a new charitable initiative while narrating various stories related to the sport to sponsors and supporters, aided by several special guests.
In the past two years, the event was held at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, with funds raised going to benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital. This year, however, Causey made the bold decision to host the luncheon at the venue for NASCAR Championship Weekend and aimed to increase awareness for the Fighter Country Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting the well-being of service members and their families at Luke Air Force Base through educational and assistance programs.
Given that Luke Air Force Base is located just 15 miles from Phoenix Raceway and that the NASCAR finale coincides with Veterans Day weekend, Causey recognized this as a unique opportunity to engage with the community while capitalizing on the synergies with the track’s most significant event of the year.
“While we continue to support Phoenix Children’s Hospital, we really wanted to take this occasion to focus on those who serve our country,” Causey explained. “Our championship race occurs over Veterans Day weekend, which also coincides with the Marine Corps birthday on Championship Sunday. We felt it was important to showcase and honor those who are currently serving, which is why we partnered with the Fighter Country Foundation.”
The Guest of Honor for the event was reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion Ryan Blaney, who discussed his title defense following a commendable podium finish in the playoff opener at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He was joined by emerging talents Rajah Caruth, Regina Sirvent, and Nathan Lyons, who shared their experiences within the Drive for Diversity program, now celebrating its 20th anniversary.

“It’s a bit unusual to visit racetracks when I’m not racing,” Blaney added. “Typically, when we’re at these venues, I’m in race mode. But being here now motivates me. I want to return and face the same title defense questions next year.”
Hosting the luncheon at Phoenix Raceway allowed Causey an opportunity to showcase the state-of-the-art facility that recently underwent a $178 million renovation to donors and sponsors who had never visited before its fifth championship weekend. One uncertainty remained: whether enough guests would make the journey, given the venue’s distance of 30 miles from the Biltmore.
Ultimately, more than 500 attendees made this event the largest luncheon in its history, enabling Phoenix Raceway to save costs by keeping operations in-house, leading to an impressive $100,000 donation to the Fighter Country Foundation.

“We wanted this opportunity to showcase the track and illustrate that we offer much more than just NASCAR race weekends,” Causey said. “It was essential for us to present our venue in preparation for championship weekend. Inviting friends to the track for a good cause was the perfect way to achieve that.”
During the event, Causey announced that the Cup Series championship race on November 10 would signify Phoenix Raceway’s seventh consecutive sell-out, with only limited tickets available for infield and hillside seating. However, grandstand tickets remain available for the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series finales on November 8-9.
