CHARLOTTETOWN,PEI – Father Arthur James O’Shea,a respected priest of the Diocese of Charlottetown,has died at the age of 94.Ordained in 1967, he dedicated his life to serving others through education and ministry, impacting numerous parishes and the wider community.
A Life Dedicated to Service and Faith
Born June 20, 1930, in Iona, PEI, Father Art served 12 parishes across Prince Edward Island throughout his career. Beyond his pastoral duties, he held notable roles within the Diocese of Charlottetown, including vicar General, Archivist, and Historian. He also served as chaplain at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and The Mount Continuing Care Facility.

Father Art’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Hillsboro Funeral Home. There will be no visitation, as per his request. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Dunstan’s Basilica on wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with interment to follow at a later date.

Father Art is survived by his sister, Anne Connolly, of Sherwood, PEI; sister-in-law, Florence O’Shea, of Iona, PEI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents,William and Helen (Byrne) O’shea; brothers,Maurice,Henry,Frank,and Leo O’Shea; and sisters,Molly O’Shea and Mary O’Shea Swanston.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at St. Dunstan’s Basilica on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. A video recording of the Funeral Mass will be available online after 2 p.m.on wednesday.
