VOORHEES, N.J. — On Wednesday, Eetu Makiniemi, who participated in the Flyers’ training camp as part of a professional tryout, signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 with the team.
The 25-year-old Finnish goaltender is stepping in for Alexei Kolosov, a 22-year-old prospect who failed to report to camp. Makiniemi is expected to begin the season sharing responsibilities with Cal Petersen in the AHL affiliate, Lehigh Valley.
A fourth-round selection by the Hurricanes in 2017, Makiniemi appeared in two games with the Sharks during the 2022-23 season. Over 54 career AHL contests, he holds a record of 27 wins, 20 losses, and 4 overtime losses, featuring a 2.77 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage, and seven shutouts.
In addition, the Flyers have conducted their first round of cuts, reducing their camp roster by 14 players.
Matteo Mann, Emile Chouinard, Ethan Samson, Sam Sedley, Sawyer Boulton, Nick Capone, Alexis Gendron, Matthew Miller, and Zayde Wisdom have been reassigned to the Phantoms.
Carson Bjarnason, Spencer Gill, Carter Sotheran, Sam Hillebrandt, and Josh Zakreski have been sent back to their junior teams. Hillebrandt and Zakreski participated in camp under amateur tryout agreements.
The Flyers’ camp roster now consists of 44 players.
