Quick Hits: August 5, 2024

This week’s installment of Mondays with Meltzer on⁣ Flyers Daily has Jason Myrtetus and me‍ delving ⁣into various subjects. Given SKA St. Petersburg’s experiment ⁣with Matvei Michkov at ⁤center in last year’s preseason, should the Flyers consider a similar strategy for this upcoming season? What is a⁢ realistic expectation for an offensive boost from Tyson Foerster ⁢in 2024-25? If Nic Deslauriers is part of the lineup when healthy, which player would step out—Bobby Brink or someone else? Moreover, what are reasonable expectations for Morgan⁣ Frost and Joel Farabee? Should Noah Cates play primarily at ⁢left wing or center? Lastly, what would be the ideal time split between Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov in net?

All these topics and more are discussed in our 28-minute conversation from the August⁢ 5 episode. You⁢ can‌ watch below⁤ or listen ‌to the ⁤audio version by clicking here.

2)‍ On⁣ Wednesday (August 7, 2024), the Flyers along with Flyers ‌Charities will collaborate with New Hanover Township officials to hold a community celebration marking the official dedication and opening of a ball ‌hockey ‍rink at Community Park from 4:00 p.m. EDT to 8:00 p.m. EDT.

The opening ceremony will take place between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. EDT, featuring speeches from township representatives as well as figures from Flyers Charities. We’re⁤ also welcoming pre-teens Natalie Van Druff and ‍Lilly Walker, who highlighted the urgent need to repair their local ball hockey ⁢rink which⁣ was seriously deteriorating.

This past June, Flyers Charities contributed $200,000 towards Natalie and Lilly Walter’s initiative to transform an unsafe asphalt rink⁣ enclosed ⁣by chain-link fencing into a safer environment for children to enjoy ball hockey. The donation facilitated ⁢significant renovations including new flooring and boards, benches, penalty boxes, as well as brand-new hockey nets.

The  New Hanover Community Park can be found at 2766 Gail Drive in ⁤Gilbertsville, PA.

In some instances ⁣during trade history within sports leagues like NHL seemingly inconsequential trades yield ⁣profound results ‍down-the-line. Take for example when the Philadelphia Flyers acquired injury-prone AHL veteran‌ defenseman Barry Ashbee from Boston Bruins’ organization back springtime ‍of ’70—nobody foresaw that he’d evolve into an iconic‌ leader both on ice during his player role & later serving assistant coach before passing away too soon in ’77—with his No. four jersey among those honored inside Wells Fargo Center alongside legends Bernie ⁤Parent (No one), Mark Howe (Two), Bill Barber (Seven), Bobby Clarke (Sixteen) & Eric Lindros (Eighty-eight).
