ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have executed several roster changes to comply with the league’s requirement for a 53-player roster limit.
Prior to the 2 p.m. MT deadline on Tuesday, the Broncos waived the following players: punter Trenton Gill; wide receivers Michael Bandy, Brandon Johnson, and Jalen Virgil; running back Tyler Badie; tight ends Hunter Kampmoyer and Thomas Yassmin; guards Nick Gargiulo and Will Sherman; tackle Demontrey Jacobs; defensive ends Elijah Garcia and Matt Henningsen; nose tackle Jordan Miller; outside linebackers Thomas Incoom and Dondrea Tillman; cornerbacks Quinton Newsome and Reese Taylor; and safety Tanner McCalister. Additionally, the Broncos designated outside linebacker Durell Nchami as waived/injured.
The team also released wide receivers Tim Patrick, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, and David Sills, along with running back Samaje Perine, fullback Michael Burton, center Sam Mustipher, guard Calvin Throckmorton, and inside linebacker Jonas Griffith.
Denver placed linebacker Drew Sanders and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. Both players missed training camp and will be able to start practicing following the fourth game of the regular season.
The Broncos also placed cornerback Damarri Mathis on Reserve/Injured (Designated for Return). He, too, is eligible to return to practice after Week 4. Thanks to a new NFL rule, players can be directly placed on IR and still return during the season, a change from the previous requirement that players needed to be on the initial 53-man roster to be eligible for return.
On Monday, Denver had already announced a number of roster moves.
