Top University Badminton Teams Clash at Canadian Championships
quebec City – The PEPS at Université Laval is hosting the Canadian University Badminton Championships from March 14th to 16th,featuring over 200 athletes from universities and colleges across Canada. The tournament promises fierce competition among some of the nation’s best teams.
Pan American Cup Medalists to Compete
Adding to the excitement, three members of Canada’s victorious Pan American Cup team, which competed in Mexico this past February, are participating. Jackie Dent (Varsity Blues, University of Toronto), Jacqueline Cheung, and Victor Lai (Lions, York University) will be showcasing their skills.
Three-Day Badminton Tournament Format
The championships begin Friday, March 14, with a team tournament involving twelve teams from Quebec and ontario. Semifinals are scheduled for Friday evening, with the finals taking place Saturday morning.Following the team event, individual competitions will be held in the standard five categories: women’s singles, men’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
Rouge et Or aim for Victory on Home Turf
The Rouge et Or badminton club of Université Laval will be a team to watch. They recently secured the RSEQ provincial mixed team title. Moreover, their athletes excelled in individual events at the provincial level, claiming multiple medals, including three provincial championships in men’s doubles, men’s singles, and mixed doubles.
“The players are ready and motivated to face the best in the country. In addition, having the chance to compete at home in front of family and friends is quite an experience for the team!” said William simard, head coach of the Rouge et Or badminton club.
