William Byron has admitted a renewed hunger for victory after falling just short of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship yet again.
Byron, one of four drivers vying for the Bill France Cup heading into Sunday’s race at Phoenix Raceway, ultimately finished third as his championship rivals Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano clinched second and first place respectively. This marks Byron’s second consecutive year finishing third in the final championship standings after also placing fourth in the same event last year.

“It makes you hungrier,” explained Byron to reporters after the race. “But also, just more experience in what it takes.” He added, “I feel like this style of track has been tough on us and we’ve made a lot of strides this year, but still, more to go.” He further elaborated, “If we can just kind of inch up on this style of track, I know we’re so good at all the other ones, and we can put it all together.”
