MLS. The deadline for American clubs is set for August 14, whereas Canadian teams had until August 8, as their window opened slightly earlier.

Will LAFC acquire Antoine Griezmann this window or in future?
This week, GIVEMESPORT reported that LAFC is engaged in discussions to acquire France international
Antoine Griezmann
from
Atletico Madrid
and has not dismissed the chance of this deal being finalized as early as this week.
To facilitate Griezmann’s signing prior to the closure of the transfer window next week—rather than waiting until the winter or summer of 2025—LAFC will need to provide updates promptly. Logistical arrangements must commence swiftly so that Griezmann can arrive before the final window closes on Aug. 14, enabling him to complete his transfer.

Griezmann is set to be free of contract following the 2024-25 La Liga season, with a release clause available this summer for €10 million ($10.9 million). Discussions have occurred between the teams regarding a possible fee, which may even be lower than the release clause amount. Should LAFC choose to activate the clause, the decision will rest entirely with the player.
Atletico Madrid reportedly continues to hold Griezmann in high regard, and he is satisfied at his Spanish club.
As he remains productive near the end of his prime, Griezmann represented France at
Euro 2024
this summer. This follows an impressive 2023-24 season where he scored 24 goals and provided eight assists during just over 3,917 minutes of play across all competitions with Atletico. In contrast, during 2022-23, Griezmann recorded 16 goals and 19 assists in a total of 3,625 minutes.
LAFC stands among the top contenders for MLS Cup as currently constructed; however, adding a frontline featuring Denis Bouanga, Olivier Giroud, and Griezmann would elevate them to even stronger favorites.

As per sources, Atlanta United still anticipates signing another Designated Player (DP) before the window closes. However, what has changed is whether or not it will definitely be a center forward.
A single DP spot remains vacant after acquiring attacking midfielder Alexey Miranchuk from Atalanta. The original strategy included signing both a DP No. 9 and DP No. 10 (Miranchuk). With increased roster flexibility expected in winter transfer dealings, Atlanta might opt to wait until then before securing their No. 9 center forward.
The present strategy involves Add another DP player this summer along with adding a third in winter. They can achieve this by utilizing allocation money gained from Caleb Wiley’s transfer to Chelsea to suppress Bartosz Slisz’s contract costs;, he currently occupies one of their three DP slots.

Following the collapse of a transfer for Ivory Coast international midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin due to an unsuccessful medical examination, sources inform GIVEMESPORT that the New York Red Bulls continue to seek summer reinforcements.
Their primary targets? A central midfielder and a U-22 initiative forward. The club remains actively engaged in both searches, aiming to finalize these acquisitions before the transfer window closes.
Currently, RBNY occupies fourth place in the Eastern Conference, marking a successful season under new head coach Sandro Schwarz (see photo above) and designated player attacker Emil Forsberg. Just prior to the opening of the summer transfer window, they transferred midfielder Frankie Amaya to Mexican side Toluca and have yet to make any additions this summer.

Two significant transfers are nearing completion but still await formal announcements: Marco Reus, joining from LA Galaxy, and Diogo Gonçalves, who is moving from Real Salt Lake.
The transfer involving Reus does not fall under the August 14 transfer window rules as he comes aboard as a free agent after his contract with Borussia Dortmund concluded this summer. MLS teams are permitted to sign free agents until September 13 when roster freezes take effect. Expect Reus’s announcement well ahead of that date.
In regard to Gonçalves, his signing will be revealed well before the closing of the window. He is set to become The new designated player (DP) for RSL following an agreement with Danish club FC Copenhagen worth just over $3 million.
Last season at Copenhagen, Gonçalves netted 11 goals and recorded six assists across slightly more than 2,500 minutes. Throughout all competitions during his tenure with Copenhagen’s giants, he accumulated a total of 21 goals along with eight assists in 57 matches.
Previously making 98 appearances for Benfica before his move to Copenhagen, he has also represented Portugal at youth international levels. Gonçalves secured one league title each with both Benfica and Copenhagen.
